MCC organizes chrysanthemum show ‘Zero Waste Event’ for the first time

Setting a rare example, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation celebrates the first ever Zero Waste event along with celebrating the annual chrysanthemum show at the beautiful garden located at Sector 33, Chandigarh.
In this zero waste event held from 10th to 12th December, no competition was organized to avoid generation of lots of disposal waste and only displays of flowers in pots were allowed. Chrysanthemum lovers saw the display of 269 different species show cased by the Municipal Corporation during this show.

As part of the initiative to celebrate zero waste event, neither plastic bottles used for water, nor paper plates were used, while paper tissue was replaced with cloth handkerchiefs and face masks were also advised to use made of cloth only so that no garbage can be generated.
In this chrysanthemum show, which was decorated for three days in the beautiful Terraced Garden of Sector 33, the flower waste and leaves were collected and used to make compost scientifically in the compost pit prepared inside the garden.

While russet crockery was used at the inauguration programme of the show, mementos made of flowers and wood were presented to all the guests including the chief guest and the employees of the Corporation.
Overall, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation played an important role in environmental conservation this year by organizing the Chrysanthemum show as a zero waste event.
